Iyengar yoga offers a complete yoga experience which brings about physical and mental stability. This is a safe and methodical practice which begins with clear instruction for alignment and precision while practicing yoga poses (asanas). Seeing each student as an individual, Iyengar instructors are taught to adapt the poses to the needs of the individual. BKS Iyengar, an innovative yoga master, was the first to incorporate props in to the yoga world. The sequencing is systematically designed to bring about increased awareness and improved strength, balance, flexibility, and concentration. As we develop the ability to be present in our practice and to spread the consciousness to all areas of the body, this style of yoga brings transformation physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  We are then able to practice meditation in action.

The Gentle Iyengar classes are taught at a slower pace and often incorporate the use of chairs and other props. We practice all variations of poses and conclude each week with at least one restorative pose. This class is appropriate for beginners, seniors, individuals with special needs, or anyone who wants a clearer understanding of the poses.

General Iyengar classes move at a quicker pace and will vary depending on the population of the particular class. Class sizes are designed so that most students and abilities can be accommodated.  Each class is designed with an intentional progressive sequence which builds in difficulty and variation one class after another.
